Ceramic creations will wow art world

A MAN who drew a line under his career in sign writing and turned to ceramics just over a year ago is now taking the art world by storm.

Garry Jones, 46, of Astwood Bank, has currently got his first solo exhibition at Ferrers Gallery in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire - a venue renowned for promoting the very best in British contemporary crafts and applied arts.

More than 100 of his humorous animal-themed ceramic creations will be on display at the gallery until September.

Garry, who did sign writing for 30 years, said: "It was during my time as a sign writer that I came up with the ideas for my pieces.

"After so long doing the same thing it became very boring, and I would find myself slipping off into my own little world and began coming up with ideas for interesting ceramic pieces I could create.

"I had been interested in ceramics for quite a while and dabbled in it at night school so I decided to abandon sign writing and just go for what I really wanted.

"I did an exhibition in Exeter last year and got a fantastic number of customer orders from that but having my first large solo exhibition at Ferrers is the real mile stone for me."
