AFTER buying a second hand book from the Alexandra Hospital, the last thing an assistant chaplain there expected to find was his late father's signature from more than 20 years ago.
Eric Saunders, 73, works part-time at the Alex and always buys his books from the second hand book stall.
He was shocked when he bought a book on the Second World War to see the words James H Saunders 1984 written inside - his father's name.
"I was absolutely amazed," said Eric.
"I couldn't get my head around it and it was so fantastic I had to look at it about half a dozen times.
"What is most amazing to me is how it's done the rounds and where it's been for all these years."
Eric's daughter Lee Laight added: "My dad couldn't wait for me to get home so that he could show me.
"It was a real shock and it's definitely a book he's going to keep hold of."
