Lake walk raises charity cash

2:32pm Monday 30th June 2008

A GROUP of kind-hearted kids has raised more than £200 for Cancer Research UK.

Brandon Edwards, 10, along with his brother Joel, six, and friends, organised a sponsored walk around Arrow Valley Lake.

The money raised will go toward Cancer Research UK, which works to improve people's understanding of cancer and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.

Brandon and Joel's grandmother, Kim Hickey, said: "I think for children of their age, what they have done is brilliant. When you hear a lot of stories about kids going out and getting into trouble it makes a refreshing change.

"I'm very pleased for them, they worked very hard and organised the whole thing."

She added: "It started when some of them were having a discussion about people who can't get certain drugs and what a shame it is.

"That's when they decided to do something about it and after how successful it was they're already thinking about doing the same thing again."
