THE number of pubs closing every week has remained at around 18 amid evidence that more people are choosing to drink at home, according to a new report.

There were 476 closures in the first six months of the year across the UK, 13 more than in the last six months of 2017, said the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra).

There were more than 60 pub closures a week in the North West and South East this year, with more than 50 in Greater London and the South West.

SLEEPING longer than the recommended seven or eight hours a night has been linked with a higher risk of premature death, according to new research.

Researchers looked at data from 74 studies involving more than three million people and found those who slept for 10 hours were 30% more likely to die prematurely than those who slept for eight.

Staying in bed for more than 10 hours was also linked to a 56% increased risk of death from stroke and a 49% increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

TWIN northern California blazes fuelled by dry vegetation and hot, windy weather have become the state’s largest wildfire in history.

The two fires burning a few miles apart and known as the Mendocino Complex are being treated as one incident.

It has scorched 283,800 acres (443.4 sq m), fire officials said on Monday.

POP superstar Pink remained in a hospital on Tuesday with a stomach virus, forcing her to postpone a third Sydney show, her promoter said.

The singer’s Beautiful Trauma world tour’s first concert in Sydney was scheduled for last Friday, but she cancelled that show on doctor’s orders.

The 38-year-old battled through a Saturday night show.
