TO celebrate the life of the founder of the suffragette movement, Emmeline Pankhurst, residents recently attended a special ceremony at Redditch’s iconic bandstand.
As the UK continues to celebrate 100 years since the first women were given the vote, Redditch joined in with the celebrations by remembering one of the most famous suffragettes, Emmeline Pankhurst.
A wreath laying ceremony to honour Mrs Pankhurst took place at the bandstand in Redditch town centre and saw speeches by Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, and others.
Schools and groups also took part in the ceremony and there was tea and cake at Rees Community Café on Church Road.
MP Mrs Maclean thanked everyone who attended and took part.
"Our town is incredibly lucky to have so many inspirational women," she said.
The aim was to celebrate women in public office and community roles, and to inspire more women to get involved in politics.
