A REDDITCH woman is taking action against dementia by leading a mammoth challenge in Snowdonia.

Naomi Fiddes-Baron, from software company Enable, will be leading a team through an eight-hour walking, cycling and kayaking challenge in Snowdonia.

The team will cover 35.5km in total while fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society.

The aim is to raise £4,355 for the dementia charity.

Naomi’s experiences of dementia are held very close to her as she has seen first-hand how the condition can be difficult and devastating.

Her grandmother, who she grew up with, developed Alzheimer’s disease and was formally diagnosed when she was 72.

She lived with the disease for seven years and experienced a gradual progression with the illness

“My nanny was an incredibly particular and a very ordered person," said Naomi.

"Perhaps the most devastating thing was to see the way her life slowly and unrelentingly unravelled around her though, I would say she remained a dignified and classy lady to the end."

The challenge will push 31-year-old Naomi and her team-mates to their limits while climbing Snowdon, paddling with tired arms, and mustering the strength to cycle.

The challenge takes place on Saturday August 4th.

There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the NHS estimate that there are 2,103 people over 65 with dementia in Redditch and Bromsgrove.
