A RECENT sailing event as part of Redditch Council’s Park Lives project has been hailed a success.

More than 40 people turned out to have a go at sailing with Redditch Sailing Club.

15 families signed up to have a go at sailing for free, with around 40 people taken out on the water at Arrow Valley Countryside Park.

Many of the juniors who took part are now signed up to continue with Redditch Sailing Club’s Sunday afternoon sessions each week.

Greg Croydon, from Redditch Sailing Club, said: “We had a great day on Saturday; it was the perfect day for sailing and the excellent weather really helped.

"We were so pleased to see so many families keen to have a go at sailing and several had such a great time that they’ve decided to come back again.

“The Park Lives programme is great and I hope other people try out some of the activities on offer – you never know you might find your new favourite hobby like some of the youngsters who attended at the weekend.”

The open day session was organised in partnership with Redditch Sailing Club as part of the borough council’s Park Lives project which offers free sports and activities for families each week until the end of August, thanks to sponsorship funding from Coca-Cola.
