ONE man is dead and another is seriously injured after a tragic sequence of events in Alvechurch on Sunday.
A man in his 30s from Wythall became trapped under his LDV Convoy van on Pestilence Lane in Alvechurch when a jack collapsed as he attempted to change a tyre, dropping the full weight of the vehicle onto his chest.
Coming to his assistance, a second man in his late 40s collapsed at the scene and was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he died not long after arrival.
A post mortem is due to take place to determine the cause of death.
The first man was rescued by fire crews and airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham, where he is currently in a critical condition suffering from a fractured collar bone, and severe chest and internal injuries.
