REDDITCH'S Ecumenical Centre has joined the fight to end the scourge of plastic waste.

The centre, based in Evesham Walk near the entrance to the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, recently got involvement in the Refill campaign - a tap water campaign that aims to make refilling bottles as easy, convenient and cheap as possible.

This means visitors to Redditch town centre are now welcome to pop up to the Ecumenical coffee shop to refill their water bottles.

The ultimate aim is to help tackle the many threats to the health of the world's oceans, including the scourge of plastic pollution.

The Ecumenical Centre cafe is open every week day from 10am until noon.

Ecumenical Centre manager Nicki Farnes said: “We try very hard to deliver quality fair trade refreshments at low prices in our cafe - it is a hub of community spirit. I’m pleased we are also joining the fight to reduce plastic in Redditch.”

Local green campaigning group Eco n Wise recently visited the Ecumenical Centre to help launch the campaign.

Claire Davies, from the group, said: “This is great news in our battle to reduce waste - we need more places in Redditch to sign up to this initiative.

"It would be amazing to see public places such as the town hall and Arrow Valley Park joining the Refill campaign, as well as businesses across the town.”

The Refill campaign is promoting a mobile app which lists all cafes and public places where people can refill water bottles - hoping to save many single use bottles along the way.

Refill is a national scheme run by City to Sea, which launched Refill Bristol in September 2015 and there are now over 10,000 Refill points around the UK.

Participating cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums and other businesses simply put a sticker in their window – alerting passers-by to the fact they’re welcome to come on in and fill up their bottle – for free.

Every time someone refills their bottle and logs it on the app, they can collect points which can then be put towards items such as reusable water bottles.
