GENEROUS Alcester residents have dug in deep to help raise £16,100 for the Alcester Poppy Appeal - a new record for the branch.

The record-breaking amount is the current total raised for the 2017/18 appeal and will be used to support the Armed Forces community.

Alcester Poppy Appeal organiser David Malin said: "We have a dedicated team of volunteers in the town who every year distribute and collect the poppy boxes.

"We are also very lucky to have an army of poppy people who collect in the shops and streets.

"Without their support the total raised would be much smaller."

The Alcester Army Cadet Force have raised more than £1,000 by collecting in the street alone.

David added: "I want to thank everyone involved in the appeal and everyone in the town that makes a donation. Every penny counts."
