IN this week's Letter From Westminster the Redditch MP says the new chairman at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has a big job to do.

She said: "Last week, after the appointment of David Nicholson as the interim chair of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, I had a very long phone call with Mr Nicholson and told him he has a big job in front of him to improve health services for Redditch residents.

"The trust is currently letting the people of Redditch down and it is Mr Nicholson’s job to put that right.

"A lot has been said about Mr Nicholson’s history, but we all need him to succeed and he should be given the opportunity to do so.

"I will of course remain in close contact with the trust and Mr Nicholson to make sure we see the signs of improvement continue.

"During our phone call, Mr Nicholson also confirmed the trust has submitted a bid for £8million from the Department of Health & Social Care.

"I have already written to health ministers and will continue to lobby them to approve this bid as soon as possible. This vital funding will enable the trust to increase acute bed capacity by 40 ahead of next Winter.

"This of course is not a silver bullet, but it will go a long way in helping to reduce the pressures our hospitals are facing."

Mrs Maclean also talks about the Redditch Eastern Gateway and of course, the Royal Wedding.

"There was also a fantastic announcement last week from the Department for International Trade.

"The Redditch Gateway project is being promoted by the International Trade Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, as part of the Government’s foreign direct investment drive totalling £30billion.

"This is brilliant news for our town and will put Redditch on the world stage. We are a proud manufacturing town, but we’re also focused on the future and the dynamic and fast-growing businesses which will create the high-skilled jobs we need.

"The Conservatives are delivering for our town and Redditch is clearly being supported at the highest levels of Government.

"Whilst I understand residents’ concerns about the type of businesses that will use the Redditch Gateway, by attracting foreign investment into this project the Government is clearly working proactively to ensure the Gateway delivers high-skilled and high-quality jobs for the people of Redditch."

She added: "I hope you all had a fantastic weekend watching the royal wedding. It’s occasions like that which make us all feel proud to be British! I’m sure everyone here in Redditch will join me in sending our congratulations to the Duke & Duchess of Sussex."
