A REDDITCH woman will be taking the plunge to raise vital cash for mental health charity Mind.

Lisa Whitehead will be taking part in The Great North Swim, Europe's biggest open water swimming event with around 10,000 participants.

Over three days in June, participants of all abilities take the plunge in stunning Windermere over a range of distances.

Lisa will be raising cash for Mind, which aims to help people take control of their mental health by providing high-quality information and advice, and campaigning to promote and protect good mental health for everyone.

She said: For many people, in addition to feelings of sadness, numbness, and hopelessness, depression also comes with feelings of isolation and loneliness.

"It is estimated that only 25 per cent of people with mental health problems receive support each year."

She added: "Mind's 2016 – 2021 strategy is called 'building on change'. And making positive changes is my 2018 plan.

"I hope that this will inspire others to speak up, get healthy and help others."
