ALCESTER Town lost interest in this season's Semdley Crooke Cup after crashing out to a 4-1 defeat at higher ranked Coton Green.

That was after Alcester had the better of first half exchanges but failed to take their chances.

Coton Green were gifted the lead when the referee judged that James Robbins had pushed a player and awarded a penalty which was duly converted.

Alcester, who have won five of their last six games, hit back to level when a pin-point pass from Downey set Will Beach free to slot home.

Coton Green grabbed the lead back within two minutes when Alcester fell apart from a free kick.

But further Alcester chances went begging as Lewis Marston hit the post while Beach had another effort cleared off the line.

Coton Green looked a completely different side after the break and soon took hold of the game.

They punished Alcester twice when catching them out on the breakaway but that was coupled by some clinical finishing.

Adam Goodby netted twice for Coton Green with Liam Arrowsmith and Sam Jones also on target.

Disappointed Alcester boss Danny Janes insisted: "In the first half, we were by far the better side but we were not clinical and lacked the quality needed when in good areas.

"The scoreline definitely did not reflect the game."

Alcester Town travel to AFC Solihull this Saturday in the Midland League match.
