REDDITCH United has launched a second satellite club following the success of a six-week pilot project in Church Hill.

And the football club is planning to roll the scheme out to further areas of the town as part of Redditch United in the Community – a charity which will be officially launched at Friday’s sportsman’s evening with first team manager Darren Byfield and former Villa and England winger Tony Daley.

The first satellite project proved a massive success with more than 30 children regularly attending weekly evening sessions at Arrow Vale RSA Academy in Matchborough.

The new sessions are being held at Church Hill Middle School every Tuesday night from 5pm to 7pm with youngsters being urged to drop in and enjoy the activities on offer.

Redditch United’s satellite club initiative, part of a wider Sport England-funded programme, is designed to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime in young people, as well as improve health and social inclusion skills.

The initial trial was also supported by Church Hill Big Local – a 10-year Lottery-funded project which aims to make significant difference to the local area.

The organisation will continue to back the scheme by offering match-funding for portable floodlights.

Ruth Jones, Youth Engagement Officer for Sports Partnership Herefordshire & Worcestershire, said the Redditch United satellite clubs helped create enjoyable, appealing and convenient opportunities for young people.

“Redditch United has gone above and beyond this by providing the expertise of their coaches, allowing young people to attend games at the ground and lending their facilities for use in community tournaments," she said.

“All of this adds to the overall experience for young people who typically would not have access to these opportunities.”

There are still a few tickets available for Friday’s charity dinner which will be staged at the Trico Stadium from 6.30pm.

Tickets cost £25 which includes a drink and pie and chips supper.

There will also be a raffle on the night with a number of prizes.
