EXCELLENT Alcester pulled off their first win of the season when they got the better of fellow promoted side Bromyard by a 28-15 margin in Midland League 3 West South.

Alcester made a flying start by scoring in the first minute of play when a good passing move sent Matt Alderman over the line for Frazer Jackson to convert.

The score remained the same for the next 25 minutes until Bromyard levelled with a converted try of their own and then took the lead through a penalty.

Alcester responded to reclaim the lead before half time, when another splendid passing move saw the ball go through several pairs of hands for Alex Chiles to score and Jackson convert.

Leading 14-10 at half time, Alcester resumed in the same manner they started the game as forward Phil Birks bulldozed his way over for Jackson to convert again.

Jack Green then went over for his first try of the term following a five metre scrum and Jackson continued his 100 per cent conversion record to put Alcester 28-10 ahead.

Bromyard had the final word when they took full advantage after George Green was sent to the sin bin for a high tackle by securing an unconverted try.

Alcester seconds' proposed fixture with Coventry Tech was called off and they finished up facing Moseley Oak 's second string.

As a result, Alcester had to lend Moseley Oak some players which resulted with Francois Pienaar scoring for both sides.

Spectators were also treated to director of rugby Stu Phillips playing his first full game for Alcester.

Alcester travel to Dunlop this Saturday when the seconds face AEI Rugby at home.
