A LARGELY disappointing crown green bowling season came to an end for the Alcester club last week with all four matches providing successes, albeit one in controversial circumstances.

This was in Division 6 of the S & W Birmingham Over 60’s League where the B team entertained Woodlands Park C, which appeared to have ended in a nine shot defeat for the Alcester side.

However, post-match scrutiny of the match card by league officials revealed that Woodlands most successful player with a 21-3 triumph was ineligible.

The game was thus awarded to the home side as a 21-0 walkover, giving them a 30 shot victory.

This rather over shadowed an excellent 21-5 win for Alcester’s Jean Craddock and further wins for Gill Spiers (21-17) and Jean Sherrington (21-18). The points thus went eight to two in Alcester’s favour, leaving them in fifth place in the final league table.

More conventional was the A team’s five shot away victory in their Division 5 match at Green Man B.

Wins for Val McDermott (21-12), Renny Bannister (21-15) and Ken Craddock (21-19) gave Alcester a nine points to three success. This gave them the championship of the division, having already clinched their third promotion in successive seasons.

Superb cards from John Alderson, Margaret D’Elia (both 21-8) and Ken Craddock (21-11) were instrumental in an excellent 24 shot away win for Alcester A at Bournville Sports A in Division 2 of the Heart of England Over 60’s league.

The 13 points to three success thus achieved leaves them in fourth place in the final league table.

A brilliant 21-2 triumph for Alan Kenyon was the feature of the home win for the B team over Tanworth in Division 4.

Also successful were Jean Craddock and Eric Allport with solid 21-12 cards giving Alcester victory by four shots. This resulted in another 13 points to three victory, putting Alcester in fifth place in the final table.

The season was brought to an end with the Club’s Round Robin pairs competition. This was won by Chris Joynes and Margaret D’Elia, with Pauline Davies and John Alderson in the runners up spot.
