A HEALTH and Safety inspector, a software developer who has survived cancer and a banker are among those hoping to rise to the occasion in Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off.

The 12-strong batch of hopefuls also features a 71-year-old retiree, the eldest amateur baker to be featured in the series to date, according to Channel 4.

The popular baking series returns to air with its new broadcaster on Tuesday August 29 at 8pm, following much controversy since news of its departure from the BBC was confirmed last year.

SIR Bruce Forsyth’s family have said their hearts are “truly broken” as they thanked fans for their messages following the entertainer’s death.

The veteran star’s wife Wilnelia and children sent a message to The One Show, which paid tribute to Sir Bruce with a special episode on Monday night.

THE Foo Fighters were joined onstage by a rather surprising special guest – English pop singer-songwriter Rick Astley.

Playing at Summer Sonic Festival in Japan, the rock band collaborated with Astley for a unique version of the 51-year-old’s 1980s classic Never Gonna Give You Up.

Watch out for some rather colourful language…

Asking people to welcome their “new best friend”, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl introduced the singer, saying: “This is f****** crazy, I just met him two minutes ago.”

STRICTLY Come Dancing fans have said Paralympian Jonnie Peacock’s inclusion on the show is a “step forward”.

The athlete, 24, is a below the knee amputee – the first to compete on the main programme.

It was announced on The One Show that Peacock would be taking part in the BBC show and he said he hoped his turn on the dancefloor would “change a bit of the stigma”.
