Redditch United 5, Dunstable Town 0

DIOR Angus struck a first half hat-trick to ease the Reds to a convincing opening day victory.

And with debutants Spencer Weir-Daley and Vinny Mukendi also finding the net, it was a day to cherish for boss Darren Byfield.

Angus opened his account from the penalty spot after just nine minutes, the referee pointing to the spot after Pauly Apostolopoulos had been tripped.

Two minutes later he had doubled his and United’s tally with a glorious left-footed volley into the roof of the net.

It was one-way traffic throughout the first half and Apostolopoulos was denied on 19 minutes when Dunstable keeper Garry Malone pushed his shot around the foot of the post.

But two more goals before the break wrapped up the win, Weir-Daley making it 3-0 when he netted from 25 yards after skipping past two defender.

Angus completed his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time with another effort from outside the area following good work from Danny Jackman.

The second half lacked the creativity of the first but the key chances all went Redditch’s way.

Gui Mailancol crashed a header against the upright on 72 minutes with Kevin Monteiro having an effort blocked soon after.

In the end it was substitute Mukendi who completed the scoring five minutes from time when he headed in a corner from close range.
