A MAN has been sent to jail for three years and four months for sexually assaulting a young girl.

William Bradley, 58, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and committing a sex act in front of a child aged under 13 when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court.

Bradley, of no fixed address, carried out the assault in Redditch on June 17 this year, Christophe Lester, prosecuting, told the court.

The girl told her mother what had happened and Bradley gave himself up to police.

Gurdeep Garcha defending, said Bradley was "mortified" by what he had done in this short-lived incident and was very remorseful, Mr Garcha said.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright said Bradley had not committed any similar offences before but would now have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

He was also given a sexual harm prevention order restricting contact with girls under 16.

He was jailed for a total of 40 months.
