A HOMELESS man in Redditch has been released back on to the streets after he urinated in public, harassed staff at Shipley’s Bingo Club and breached the terms of a criminal behaviour order.

Kevin Matcham, 52, formerly of Upton Close, pleaded guilty to the charges at Redditch Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning (June 21).

On Tuesday, June 20, Matcham entered the Alcester Street bingo hall asking to use the toilet, but was refused by staff for being too drunk.

He then shouted and swore at the workers, who called the police. One said Matcham had made her feel ‘quite threatened and uncomfortable’.

Officers arrested Matcham as he walked down Alcester Street, breaching the terms of a CBO which prevented him from entering Redditch town centre.

Kriss Ewing, prosecuting, said Matcham had a large number of similar previous convictions – ‘too many to count’ – one being less than two weeks old.

But Sumreen Afsar, for Matcham, said the cleaner at Shipley’s typically let him use the toilets and that he had ‘nowhere else to go’ when staff refused him entry.

He had no money and often used the Magistrates’ Court facilities to wash himself, Mrs Afsar told the court.

But magistrates asked how Matcham was able to become intoxicated if he had no income.

“This can’t continue,” they said.

Matcham was sentenced to spend the rest of the day in custody. He will not have to pay court costs or a victim surcharge due to his time spent in custody.
