REDDITCH council has said cladding in the district’s buildings is of “low risk in respect to fire” following a government call to check properties in response to the Grenfell Tower fire.

In line with his Communities and Local Government (DCLG) role, Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid this week demanded all councils supply data on cladding in buildings to ease residents’ ‘anxiety’ over the type of cladding in their area.

The government is searching for properties with Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding, which many experts say accelerated the fire spread in the fatal Grenfell Tower fire.

Redditch Borough Council have worked with the government to supply data on their buildings, and insist the material they use meets “nationally recognised standards”.

A spokesman from Redditch Borough Council said: “We would like to assure residents that the cladding applied to our properties and promoted to private households via the Green Deal Communities external wall insulation scheme are all certified and installed to stringent nationally recognised standards by the British Board of Agreement (BBA) as being low risk in respect to fire.

“There are fire alarms in all council blocks, which have no more than three levels, which are tested weekly.’’
