IMPROVEMENTS at the Alexandra Hospital is a “top priority” for Jeremy Hunt, says Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid, who has held an urgent meeting with the health secretary.

The duo met on Tuesday, June 20, after another damning Care Quality Commission (CQC) report rated Redditch’s embattled hospital as ‘inadequate’.

Both the hospital and Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust, which runs it, have been told they must stay in special measures, and Bromsgrove’s MP wants both to get “back on track”.

He said: “I am disappointed to hear this news.

“I’ve met today with Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to express my concerns.

“He’s reassured me that this is a top priority on his agenda.

“At this crucial time, it’s important that NHS Improvement and the new Chief Executive ensure we have safe, reliable and high quality local services that residents and patients deserve.

“I know how dedicated our local NHS staff are and how hard they work in caring for residents.

“We must get our local NHS fully back on track.”

Michelle McKay, the new chief executive of Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust, says she is "determined" to turn things around.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean has also requested a meeting with Mr Hunt after saying she was "extremely disappointed" by the report into the Alex.
