A DECAPITATED rabbit has been found on a car roof in Darlington, its head impaled on the aerial, the Northern Echo reports.

Richard Harmer was taking a stroll along Hartford Road on Saturday morning when he made the grisly discovery on the top of a black car.

The headless rabbit’s body was laid on the top of the car and its decapitated head had been pushed on to the aerial nearby.

Mr Harmer said: “It looked like a pet rabbit, not a wild rabbit, because it was clean.

“As I was taking a photograph the chap whose car it was came out and disposed of it. He wasn’t very pleased either.

“It was very surreal - it had just been placed on top of the car with no head on it.”

Mr Harmer said neither he or the car’s owner had reported the matter to the police as he didn’t believe they would be able to do anything.

He said he did not know who owned the rabbit but added: “It’s only a small thing in the scale of things in the present climate.

“But it does show the number of sad and unpleasant people in our town.”
