KIND-HEARTED slimmers in Worcester have donated bundles of clothing to help raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

The Worcester Slimming World groups gave away clothes they had slimmed out of to The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw to raise funds for the charity.

The groups raised more than £6,000 for Cancer Research UK by donating 220bags of clothes, shoes and accessories.

The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw aims to increase awareness of how keeping a healthy weight helps reduce the risk of developing some types of cancer.

Consultant Sam, who runs three weekly Slimming World groups across Worcester, said: "This year’s Clothes Throw has been a fantastic success, and I can’t believe just how many bags my members, their friends and families have managed to collect. Our group is always buzzing and when we collected the bags up and saw what a phenomenal amount there were altogether, and we realised what a difference we could make, the atmosphere was just electric.

"All of the wardrobes cleared and every donation made by our members, their friends and families will make a huge difference to Cancer Research UK and we’re so grateful for everyone’s support."

Jess, who runs Slimming World groups in Peopleton, added: "It’s shocking to think that 70 per cent of the local population is overweight and we’re desperately trying to help those people change their lives with Slimming World. Currently, being overweight is the second biggest preventative cause of cancer and that’s why we’re so passionate about The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw – it’s a fantastic way to raise money, awareness and celebrate our fabulous members too."
