FRIENDS and family of a Redditch man who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash are raising money for the charity that saved his life.

Aaron Clayton, aged 32, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham after suffering substantial blood loss as well as facial, head, and leg injuries in a collision between his Triumph Bonneville and a car on Rye Grass Lane.

This was just five minutes away from his Walkwood home, at about 5.40pm on Friday, May 5.

The senior art director, who works for an advertising agency in Birmingham, was flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham after receiving treatment at the road side by paramedics. A second air ambulance was called to the scene to give Aaron a blood transfusion.

Aaron, who married his wife Amy in 2015, was put into an induced coma due to his head injuries and spent three weeks in hospital recovering.

Following the crash, his family and friends rallied together to help raise cash for The Midlands Air Ambulance, which is funded entirely through donations.

Aaron said: "The Midlands Air Ambulance is an amazing operation.

"I'm so thankful that the crew came to my rescue, they provide a first class service and it's such a shame that they have to rely so heavily on charitable donations.

"The air ambulance team, along with all the medical staff that helped with my treatment at the QE, have been incredible and I will never be able to thank them enough for their help and assistance and honestly don’t think I would be here without all of them."

He is now recuperating at home.

A charity Northern Soul and SKA night in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance is being held at St Benedict’s Social Club in Rowan Road at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 24.

Tickets cost £5 on the door.

A fundraising page has also been set up to help raise cash for the charity. To donate go to tinyurl.com/yapovtw8.
