KKINDHEARTED volunteers across Redditch are being thanked for their hard work and dedication.

Redditch Borough Council, which is supporting National Volunteers’ Week (June 1 to June 7), offers a variety of volunteering opportunities, including outdoor placements, work at the Palace Theatre, Digital Champions, a BRAVO (Bromsgrove and Redditch Active Volunteering Opportunities) scheme and opportunities via the Redditch Partnership.

BRAVO volunteers Emily Shotbolt and Joe Buckley, both 17, were recently recognised for their voluntary work at Redditch Rugby Club by England Rugby.

James Shotbolt, coach developer at Redditch Rugby Club said: "Emily and Joe have both completed well over 100 hours of volunteering services to Redditch Rugby Club and the wider community helping the club run new programs and grow in stature. They have both become qualified referees and coaches helping to develop the young rugby players at the club and support a number of community projects."

Brandon Aston, another of the council’s volunteers has been working on a range of sports development programs for the last two years and in particular has become an integral part of the Inclusive Junior Athletics program.

Brandon said: "I have gained a lot of valuable and applicable experience from volunteering/coaching which is vital for my future. I would highly recommend the BRAVO scheme to others as it has helped me build a valuable reputation for the volunteering I have undertaken."

The council is encouraging more residents with spare time to volunteer.

Judith Willis, head of community services at Redditch Borough Council, said: "Volunteers are an integral part of clubs and community groups across the Borough and many sports clubs and groups would not be able to run without their input. Volunteering can be a great way to learn new skills, gain experience, get qualifications, give back to your community, make new friends and evidence even suggests it’s also great for your mental wellbeing."

The council’s BRAVO matches interests, skills and availability to volunteering opportunities across local clubs, groups and organisations.
