MUSIC fans from all over the region came together to celebrate the very best of pop punk, ska and rock at Slam Dunk 2017.

For the second time the Midlands edition was held at the NEC in Birmingham, following its relocation from Wolverhampton.

To make the event, which takes place over several stages, easier for revellers, an app listing all the bands, their set times, location and a countdown timer, was available to download for free on smart phones.

In wake of the Manchester terror attack on Monday, May 22, which claimed 22 lives, security was tighter than ever, with organisers urging festival-goers not to bring a bag unless it was essential.

Security staff worked around the clock to ensure the safety of those attending, with physical body checks and vigorous bag checks carried out.

Cute Is What We Aim For, led by singer Shaant Hacikyan, burst onto the stage for lively performances of Curse of Curves, Risque and There's a Class for This.

Madina Lake frontman Nathan Leone spent much of his set crowd surfing, giving energetic performances to hits, House of Cards, Here I Stand and One Last Kiss.

Wearing a black shirt, which embellished the word 'Manchester', Bowling for Soup frontman Jaret Reddick stole the show as he announced that it might appear as if he had eaten the lead singer, when in fact he’d just gained a lot of weight.

He confidently told the audience that even if they weren’t their favourite band, they would be by the end of the night.

They gave crowds superfast versions of all their best numbers, including Punk Rock 101, 1985, Girl All The Bad Guys Want, The Bitch Song and High School Never Ends.

Reddick asked the audience if they were excited for them to play the hit Stacy’s Mom, knowing some members of the audience would not realise that the upbeat track is actually by Fountains of Wayne.

After lots of people expressed excitement at the track Bowling For Soup performed it anyway.

A chant for Manchester, started by the crowd, was encouraged by the band, who asked everyone to join in.

Reddick also thanked the security staff for "keeping everyone safe".

UK act Don Broco, who are working on their next studio album, took time out of their busy schedule to perform one of their last concerts of the year.

They took to the stage with popular hits such as Everybody, Priorities and Money Power Fame.
