STUDENTS from The Kingfisher School took centre stage at Kingfisher Shopping Centre last week, showcasing a vibrant collection of photography and paintings.

A gallery exhibition, organised as part of a longer term school assignment, marked the final stage of a project set up to engage students between the ages of 14 to 16.

Mick Phelan, teacher at The Kingfisher School, said: “The students’ art showcase was absolutely fantastic. We’d like to extend a huge thank you to the centre for letting us use Walford Walk to host the exhibition.

“This event was particularly poignant for the students that got involved as they were able to share 12 months of learning with friends and family following a jam packed schedule of activity that kicked off at school in September 2016.

“The student’s involvement and enthusiasm for this project has been outstanding, exceeding all our expectations. The scheme has been a massive success and their work is truly wonderful.”

Ken Williams, general manager at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre, added: “The art on display was superb and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it. We hope the students involved go on to have long and successful careers in whichever walk of life they choose, no doubt we will be seeing some of their art hitting the big time in the future.”

The Kingfisher School is a special school for children who have found it difficult to access mainstream education.
