TALENTED track and field athletes from Alcester Grammar School have won multiple titles at the Warwickshire Schools Combined Events Championships.

Students competed over two days across multiple disciplines, against schools from across Warwickshire.

Year 7 students competed in four events (80m, shot, long jump, 600m) with Sophie Ross being crowned champion in the individual girls competition with her success being instrumental in helping AGS to win the girls team event with Maddie Gregory and Chloe Cavanagh.

Evan McWhirter placed third in the boys’ event, with Matt Bexson and Ben Hudson closely behind, finishing second as a team.

More successes followed as the year 8/9 teams won both the boys and the girls’ team event (hurdles, shot, long jump, high jump, 800m). Maddie Clark took the individual girls title with Evie Beard and Freya Ramsay both giving very creditable performances to finish in the top 13 of over 40 athletes. The boys produced some very consistent results with Adam Farrow third, George Fox-Rowe fourth and Morgan Eagle fifth in a field of 35.

In the year 10/11 boys octathlon (hurdles, long jump, shot, 400m javelin, discus, high jump, 1500m) events were spread across two days in which some outstanding performances resulted in yet another team win. All competitors finished in the top 12 of 30 athletes to win by almost 2000 points.

Zephan Boxall was desperately close to winning the boys individual title, missing out by just nine points.

Head of Physical Education, Charley Thomas, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for all of the students involved and is testament to the hard work they put in during lessons and clubs week in, week out. We value athletics highly as a physical education department and it's wonderful to see our students reaping the rewards from the programme."
