A SPECIAL walk to encourage people from different religions to learn about other faiths will be held later this month.

The Redditch Faiths Together Walk aims to promote great mutual respect and cooperation between all people, including those without a religion.

The walk, which this year coincides with 500 years since the beginning of the European Reformation, will start at the Bordesley Abbey ruins in Riverside, before walking to St Stephens Church on Church Green in Redditch town centre, where there will be a panel of four to five different faith representatives including, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, and Catholic.

The panel will be focusing on the topic 'Finding Unity in Diversity: Marking 500 years since the beginning of Christian Reformation in Europe'.

The event, which is now in its third year, is on Sunday, May 21, and will start at 2.30pm (expected to finish by 5pm).

Hindu Nitin Sodha, one of the co-organisers of the event, said: "The walk is about social cohesion and the community of Redditch coming together.

"Redditch is a wonderful place," he added.

Another organiser Bill Hartnett said: "The first two years walks have been great successes. The walks are a great event we learn about each other and it’s a chance to celebrate our diversity and learn more about each other.

"I would encourage residents to attend to some or all of the day at the abbey on the walk or just at the church for the panel discussion."
