A DRUNKEN Redditch man who chased after guests at his New Year's Eve party with a knife after he thought they had stolen his mobile phone and cut his girlfriend's hand has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Shabir Jussab, aged 27, ran into the street and was seen stabbing a wall and a bin with a kitchen knife on December 31 last year, Worcester Crown Court was told.

Naomi Nelson-Cofie, prosecuting, told the court Jussab, of Mount Pleasant, found his mobile phone was missing and his girlfriend had a cut to her hand after two guests had left the party at his flat.

He grabbed a kitchen knife and went out after them but failed to find them. A witness was alarmed at seeing him with the knife and police were called.

Miss Nelson-Cofie said Jussab admitted he had been very drunk at the time.

He pleaded guilty to having a bladed article in a public place.

Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins, QC, said it had been an "ill thought out, impulsive and foolish" response by Jussab to something he thought had happened after he had drunk more than he was used to.

He was given a sentence of six months suspended for 12 months with a rehabilitation requirement of 15 days and 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £250 towards costs.
