A LIFE-saving defibrillator has been installed at an Alcester leisure centre thanks to a donation from a Redditch charity.

The Greig, in Kinwarton Road, received the vital donation from Rob and Maggie Underwood of Charlotte and Craig Saving Hearts Foundation.

Staff were previously had to go to the St Benedict's Catholic High School if someone suffered heart problems to retrieve vital equipment but now a defibrillator has been installed on site.

Greig Hall general manager James Brookes, who has used the equipment at St Benedict’s three times before, spoke to defibrillator campaigner Ann Delany who contacted the charity.

Rob said: "We are just glad to get one there. I know James works with people with cardiac problems who have been referred by their GP and we know how important time is with a heart condition. We hope by having one on site, staff will be able to use it straight away without wasting time.

"We are always happy to help," he added.

Cllr Alison Brown, who worked with Ann Delany to install the defibrillator at St Benedict’s, said: "James has used the deliberator at least three times and did actually save someone's life last year.

"He felt that it would help to have one on site and as Ann and I did not have sufficient funds to buy one now Rob stepped in and kindly donated one."
