A KEEN Redditch runner is taking part in this year’s London Marathon inspired by her family and friends affected by Alzheimer's.

Julia Blake, aged 47, who works at Natwest on Church Green, is raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, a care and research charity who help people with the disease and other dementias.

She will also honour her father-in-law Colin Blake who was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease and died after an eight year battle, aged 72.

Mrs Blake said:"Too many people are affected by this awful disease, including my father in law, who died far too young from Alzheimer's.

"I have friends also personally affected by this disease.

"I decided to run for the Alzheimer's charity as it is a charity close to my heart and wanted to raise money for such a worthy cause.

"I wanted to raise awareness and funds for this cause in the hope we can find a cure for our future generations."

Mrs Blake,of Clarendon Close, Brockhill, who has been running for four years, is preparing for the 26.2 mile run with Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club.

"They have been very supportive in helping achieve my training goals," she added.

She recently completed a 20 mile race in Gloucester, her furthest distance so far in preparation for the marathon.

The marathon is taking place on April 23.
