AN Alcester-based organisation, which aims to help refugee children from war torn countries, including Syria and Iraq, is holding a special meeting.

Alcester Refugee Fund has been organised to help connect local people to youngsters who have fled from their homes due to the violence and unrest.

Its objective is to raise cash whilst also raising awareness of the challenges and needs that are being faced by refugee children.

The group was founded by Alcester resident Frank Wood and runs through a partnership with the Christian charity, Open Doors UK.

The next meeting on Friday, April 7 will welcome head of advocacy at Open Doors UK Zoe Smith.

Zoe is an expert on human rights law and is also part of the team coordinating Hope for the Middle East – a seven year Open Doors global campaign to bring prayer, support and advocacy for Christians and other minorities.

She has already convinced more than 100 MPs to support the cause and is very informed about the Iraq and Syria situation.

In her spare time, she has worked with a team to start a new church in Harborne, Birmingham.

Entrance is free and there will be a collection at the end.

Refreshments will be provided and proceeds will be donated to Open Doors, a non-denominational Christian charity, which is particularly active in the Middle East.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm in Alcester Town Hall.
