MORE than 90 per cent of people who responded to an online poll believe Redditch MP Karen Lumley should resign.

This paper, The Redditch Advertiser, asked readers if they think the MP should quit after a petition calling for her resignation on Change.org gathered momentum in light of the recent tragic death of Callum Cartlidge.

The eight-year-old schoolboy died of a cardiac arrest on Friday, March 3 after ambulance staff were allegedly told not to take him to the Alexandra Hospital, just two minutes from his home, but 20 miles away to Worcestershire Royal instead.

His death follows the closure of the children’s ward at the Woodrow Drive hospital in September last year.

About 1,000 people took part in the poll.

A majority of 91 per cent of voters said she should resign, just six per cent said she should remain and the remaining three per cent were unsure.

Responding to the poll on Facebook, Colette Kearney said: "Redditch has had enough of this self-serving career politician. She was all for saving the services when she was looking to be elected. Then she happily stood by and allowed our services to be stripped away. Tragedy has already struck as a result. The woman is an absolute disgrace. Resign."

Mark Harvey added: "She really doesn't care what people think if they disagree with her. Whatever they are telling her. Even if they plead."

The petition on Change.org was set up two months ago by former chairman of the disbanded Save the Alex campaign Neal Stote, amidst concerns for the troubled Alexandra Hospital.

The application, which claims the MP misled constituents, has more than 2,600 signatures.

Responding to the Change.org petition and the Advertiser’s poll, Mrs Lumley, who is currently recovering from illness, said: "I am meeting health professionals this week to discuss with them the issues facing us regarding local health provision. As far as the death of Callum Cartlidge is concerned, I will await the report on the investigation before making any further comment."
