AN animal sanctuary is appealing for help after Storm Doris destroyed many of its homes resulting in hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

Hopper Haven and Littlefoot Sanctuary, on Evesham Road in Crabbs Cross, has been left in bad shape after a 70 foot conifer came down and damaged a number of enclosures and hutches on Thursday, February 23.

Sanctuary owner Louise Devaney rescued six rabbits, just moments before the tree crashed to the ground.

It is thought another tree also come down in the dangerously high winds.

Thankfully, none of the 130 rabbits and Guinea pigs that the animal sanctuary provides a home for were hurt.

Clean up work has already started and volunteers are trying to do most of the labour themselves but there are additional costs such as the removal and replacement of fencing, removal costs for trees and hutch repairs.

Caroline Morrissey, trustee at the sanctuary, said all the enclosures and hutches had been hand-made by themselves.

"Seeing our had work smashed to pieces is quite distressing," she admitted.

“Myself and Jennifer Cox have done all the work – building the site ourselves. We know how long it look to build."

She appealed for help saying any donation would be greatly appreciated and would mean money does not have to come out of the sanctuary's food and bedding budget.

“It is really difficult to get the funding, so any help would be wonderful," she said.

So far nearly £400 has been raised.
