MOONLIGHT beat La La Land to claim the coveted best picture Oscar, following a mix-up which saw Damien Chazelle’s musical erroneously announced as the winner.

Ryan Gosling struggled to contain his laughter when the error was revealed.

The actor was on stage with his co-stars and the filmmakers as they accepted the top gong of the evening, before it became apparent the wrong movie had been read out by its presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

The mix-up saw the musical’s producers finishing off their acceptance speeches before La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz revealed the mistake, prompting a brief moment of panicked chaos on-stage.

In the midst of the confusion, Ryan held his hand up to his face in an attempt to hide his amused giggle.

Jordan said: “There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won best picture.

“This is no joke. I’m afraid they read the wrong thing. This is not a joke, Moonlight, you won best picture.

Ryan, 36, appeared to be in good spirits despite the mishap and having earlier missed out on the leading actor prize to Manchester By The Sea’s Casey Affleck.

La La Land won a total of six Oscars, including leading actress for Emma Stone and original song for City Of Stars.

PAUL O’Grady has claimed young people who practise unprotected sex are shaming the memory of his friends who died during the 1980s Aids crisis.

Speaking about how he lost a number of friends to the disease, he said “poz parties” made him especially angry.

Poz parties are events where gay men consent to having unprotected sex with each other, knowing that some participants may be HIV positive.

Speaking about the parties, the 61-year-old told Attitude magazine: “What we fought for is being thrown back in our faces.

“I’d get hold of them round the throat and slap them right round the mouth. I’d say, ‘You’re pissing on the graves of all my friends with that attitude’.”
