VETERAN Hereford FC defender Ryan Green believes he still has a few years left in the game.

The Welshman continues to be a rock at the heart of the Bulls defence and feels being a centre-half will prolong his playing days.

"If I was a full-back and I could only play there, then maybe I would say another year, but at centre-half, I've definitely got a few years left," said Green.

"I don't mind playing right back every so often, but I'm a centre-half these days."

Despite suffering their first league defeat against Taunton last Saturday, Hereford are still odds-on favourites to gain promotion to the Southern League Premier Division.

Green played eight times in the league for Merthyr and says it is a step up.

"It's a decent league with some big, strong organised teams so it will be tough next season," he said.

"But we haven't won this league yet, so we will concentrate on that first.

"It's a good lead, but we're not going to take our foot off the gas and, even if we win the league, we will continue to get maximum points in each game.

"We will take each game as it comes, Yate won't be easy and I doubt the pitch will be up to much.

"It will be another graft and we will look for another three points and move on to the next game."

Green returned to the Bulls starting line-up last Saturday after recovering from a pulled thigh muscle and illness.

He conceded Hereford were slow to get out of the blocks during the first 20 minutes against Taunton, but played well in the second half and deserved a point.

"They're a big physical team, they play route one and know what they're doing," said Green.

"I can see why they've gone on such a good run and caused us flat-footed for the first 20 minutes.

"They then grafted, but in the second half we were much better team and created plenty of chances.

"They threw their body on the line, but I think a draw would have been a fair result.

"When we next play them away we will be ready and look for revenge."
