PEOPLE visiting Redditch beauty spots are warned not to leave valuables unattended in their cars after a woman had her handbag stolen from Morton Stanley Park.
A woman left her red Fiat Punto at the Windmill Drive end of the park at around 1.25pm on Saturday, June 16 while she took her dog for a walk. When she returned she found her car had been broken into and her handbag stolen from the boot.
The black bag contained a Nokia mobile phone, a black purse, cash and bank cards.
Pc Eddie Mills, Redditch's crime risk manager, said: "Although vehicle crime figures are relatively low in Redditch as a whole, we want to take this opportunity to remind motorists to be vigilant about their own car security, particularly as they leave their cars at local parks and other beauty spot car parks.
"Ensure nothing is left on display inside your vehicle and that all windows are closed and doors locked.
"Offenders may be watching so avoid moving your belongings into the boot when you park. Instead, keep as little in the car as you can at all times and take valuables with you.
"Remember it's not just the cost of losing belongings and getting your car repaired but the time and inconvenience involved as well.
"Most thieves are opportunists, so follow these simple steps and avoid being a victim of car crime."
Anyone with information about this theft can call Redditch police on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
