RESIDENTS who have concerns for the safety of rough sleepers Redditch are being urged to contact a national helpline.

Streetlink is a phone line, web app and mobile initiative which enables the public, via them, to alert local authorities about people sleeping rough in their area.

Redditch Borough Council are using the technology to tackle homelessness in the town.

Councillor Mark Shurmer, portfolio holder for housing, said: "The council works hard to tackle homelessness all year round and help people in housing need.

"Rough sleepers often have more complex needs and are harder to help.

"Last week officers have been taking a hot snack out with them to encourage anyone sleeping rough to engage with services.

"Streetlink helps us to identify and support these people, especially those new to the street, and work towards a housing solution for them."

Concerned residents or people in need of housing advice can also contact the council's housing options team on 01527 534069.
