STAFF at a Redditch pub are flushed with success - after their loos were given the highest possible rating by inspectors.

The loos at the Royal Enfield Wetherspoons pub on Unicorn Hill are so pristine they have been given a platinum star in the Loo of the Year Awards 2016 - a ranking given only to places that offer "exceptional toilets".

"We're highly chuffed," said Royal Enfield manager Gareth Firkin.

"Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

He added: "Our loos are very popular - they're obviously the place to be in Redditch."

The awards are aimed at highlighting and improving standards of "away from home" toilet provision across the UK.

Authorised inspectors make unannounced visits to hundreds of toilets at sites across the UK.

Mr Firkin said: "Someone came in a few weeks ago with a clipboard, spoke to one of our managers and didn't say anything when they left.

"We check our loos hourly to make sure they are clean and tidy - and we're delighted to hear the inspector judged our toilets so highly."

Toilets are graded from bronze to gold - with unacceptable toilets not ranked at all - and the inspectors judge the decor, maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing, drying equipment and overall management.

Loo of the Year awards 2016 managing director Mike Bone said: "The toilets at The Royal Enfield have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

"The pub richly deserves its platinum award, the highest individual award the judges can deliver."
