A TEAM of cyclists from Rowney Green, near Alvechurch, recently rode home from John O’Groats, covering 700 miles in just eight days for charity.

The JOGROG team (John O’Groats to Rowney Green), led by Gerry Lynskey, were raising cash for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and Look Good Feel Better, a charity that helps women manage the visible side effects of cancer treatment.

Mr Lynskey's son was airlifted by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity following a cardiac arrest in 2004.

He said: “Although we are a small rural community, a number of villagers have unfortunately had to rely on Midlands Air Ambulance, including my son, which is why we wanted to support this terrific service, and the Look Good Feel Better charity.

“While the ride was gruelling for the team, our support driver, James McManus, and Dizzie the dog, it showed great teamwork and camaraderie. We’d like to thank everyone who donated, as they’ve helped make all the hard work worthwhile.”

The team raised more than £4,670 for the two organisations.

Michelle McCracken, Worcestershire fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “The team’s fundraising effort demonstrates just how community spirit thrives in Rowney Green.

"They’ve raised a terrific amount for both organisations, which will make a significant difference to our operations.”
