"I have great confidence that Theresa May will deliver as the UK carefully dips its toes into the post Brexit era," writes Redditch MP Karen Lumley in her diary from Westminster.

As I have said before, there is a lot of work to be done post the referendum vote, but with all the other political parties in total disarray (the divide in Labour, lack of support for the Lib Dems and the farcical situation within UKIP) I really do believe the Conservatives are best placed to successfully take our country forward.

This process will not be brief or straightforward and the Government is not going to provide a running commentary on every twist and turn that the negotiations present. Nonetheless there are clear principles from which the Government is starting the process. As we conduct our negotiations, it must be a priority to regain more control of the numbers of people who come here from Europe, but also to allow British companies to trade with the single market in goods and services. While the ability to trade with EU member states is vital to our prosperity, there is clearly no mandate for a deal that involves accepting the free movement of people from Europe. The Government will set out further detail in due course.

On Monday, October 10 I held a meeting with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust management and other interested parties following the public meeting held last month.

A number of constituents have been in touch since the public meeting, some to say that they were disappointed they weren’t able to air their particular questions on the day, so please feel free to continue to e-mail me on karen.lumley.mp@parliament.uk and I will get your questions answered by the appropriate people.

The Party Conference season is over for another year and I spent a very pleasant day at the Conservative event myself last Tuesday, October 4.

In the next parliamentary session, the Government will bring forward legislation that will repeal the European Communities Act 1972 on the day that Britain leaves the EU. This ‘Great Repeal Bill’ will end the authority of EU law and return power to the UK. Until the UK leaves the EU however, it will continue to meets its legal obligations within the EU.

On Friday, October 7 I managed to squeeze in another Macmillan Coffee & Cake Sale at JSC Rotational Ltd in Inkberrow. Always delighted to partake in a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake, it was also lovely to visit a successful business out in the charming rural part of the constituency.
