A GROUP dedicated to helping good causes is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Bromsgrove and Redditch Soroptimists, which meet regularly at Southcrest manor Hotel in Redditch, is holding a weekend of events later this month to mark the special milestone.

The group will be joined by members from its Friendship link at Neuss in Germany and plans to enjoy days out in Stratford upon Avon and Harvington Hall.

This year the club is supporting the Meru Project, Cherish and Redditch Nightstop, which provides emergency accommodation for homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25.

A spokesman said: "We have, over the 49 years of our club, supported many good causes both local and international by both raising money and giving service. For some years we have been raising money for the Worcestershire Breast Cancer Unit which is being developed in Worcester.

"Members are actively involved in supporting local charities, giving service to Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Friends and to Home-Start North East Worcestershire which supports families with young children."
