ORGANISERS of Studley Car Boot Sale were forced to postpone the last event of the season after organisers claim travellers invaded the site - defecating on the land, burning property and vandalising units.

A large group of travellers forced their way onto the Jill Lane field last week, causing “mindless destruction and vandalism”, according to organisers.

Posting on Facebook, an event organiser said: “Unfortunately we are going to postpone our last car boot sale of the season due to the volume of damage caused this week.”

They added: “The field is wet and the forecast is for more rain. Sorry to those who were looking forward to it.”

Organisers also thanked the police for their help.

Commenting on Facebook, Steve Mason said: “We had an infestation of these so called “travellers” in Halesowen a couple of weeks ago.

“Took a week to move them on. They left a very similar mess which took days to clean up. “Total disrespect for landowners.”

Kevin Orchard said: “Why damage the place? If they came and went quietly they would not be so hated.”

Bernadette Conway added: “The weather we can accept, the mindless vandalism however is a pure disgrace.” The event is now scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 28.
