AN investigation had to be launched after an eight-year-old boy tried to smuggle a kitchen knife into a busy Studley school.

The pupil tried to bring the blade into St Mary's CE Academy earlier this month but teachers were alerted by another pupil.

Several pupils claimed he wanted to use the knife on another pupil after a falling out over a girl.

The school have stressed this is not the case.

After the worrying incident, the students’ parents took him to a local police station.

The Warwickshire Safeguarding Team were also contacted.

Speaking on behalf of the school, David Morris, Coventry Diocese Multi Academy Trust chief executive officer, said: "There was a young child, he had a knife in his bag, it was found in the playground before he came into the building.

"There was no threat to another child.

"An investigation was carried out and the pupil was put in isolation.

"This is a young boy who was trying to show off in front of his class mates.

Mr Morris added that his parents of the child were involved and they took the child to the police station.
