RESIDENTS across Alcester are being warned to be vigilant following an increase in reports of a bogus phone calls.
Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police say residents have reported a number of hoax calls, claiming to be from BT or TalkTalk.
The scammers claim the victims have a virus on their computers or are due a refund.
One resident received a call from someone pretending to be from TalkTalk, claiming the victim was owed £200.
Fraudsters accessed the victim's laptop and attempted to take money from the victim's bank accounts, however the bank blocked the transfer.
Police also warn scammers will make repeated attempts to gain access to computers by asking potential victims to input codes to target 'infected' files or may request account details.
Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting incident number 219-22-06-16.
