A WOMAN was confirmed dead at the scene of a house fire in Netherton yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at around 7.30am yesterday (May 19) in Spring Road.

Investigators using dogs remained at the scene throughout the day but so far no details have been released.

A HIGH Court judge has said he will rule at 10am today (Friday) whether the explosive Wragge Report into alleged corruption at Sandwell Council will be published.

Melanie Dudley, assistant chief executive of Sandwell Council, said: “Following a High Court hearing this evening (THU), Judge Cranston has said he will deliver his judgment tomorrow (FRI) on whether or not the Sandwell Council-commissioned report by Wragge & Co (now Gowling WLG) and the legal opinion of an independent QC can be published."

A POPULAR Lye councillor has made history in Dudley by becoming the borough's first-ever Muslim mayor.

Councillor Mohammed Hanif, who represents Lye and Stourbridge North, has spent a year as Deputy Mayor of Dudley and last night (Thursday) he was voted in as the borough's first citizen.

Had the local election on May 5 resulted in a power shift - the long-serving Labour councillor could have lost the chance to take over the prestigious ceremonial role.

THE police have vowed to crackdown on boy racers in Headless Cross and Oakenshaw.

For some time officers have been dealing with anti-social drivers in the area surrounding Coldfield Drive, between the Tesco supermarket and the fast food restaurants on the roundabout.

In Christmas 2015 boy racers were presenting such a danger local officers decided to rally residents to come forward and provide statements.

TRAINS are now running as usual at Bromsgrove after a man was killed after being struck by a train close to Droitwich Spa railway station.

British Transport Police said they attended the incident at 5.46am yesterday, Thursday, May 19, and are currently treating the incident as non-suspicious.

The train involved was the 5.30am Worcester Shrub Hill to Dorridge.

COUNCIL chiefs in Wyre Forest have spoken of their frustration at being unable to move travellers from a car park in Stourport.

Seven vans arrived at Stourport Leisure Centre car park back in June last year, resulting in complaints from residents, businesses and parish councillors who called for the district authority to take legal action to remove them.
