SEVEN people were rushed to hospital this bank holiday weekend, following a horror crash on the Bromsgrove Highway near Lydiate Ash.

Emergency services were called to the Slideslow Island on the A38, close to where the road crosses with the A448, at around 4pm on Sunday, May 1.

Four West Midlands ambulances were sent to the scene, along with a paramedic area support officer, the West Midlands CARE team and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

The crash, which left seven people injured, was between a blue BMW travelling south and a silver Volvo travelling north.

One person, who was trapped in one of the cars for approximately 40 minutes, was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in a serious condition with a leg fracture.

A man in his 40s suffered a fractured arm and was rushed to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch with a woman in her 40s, who suffered minor injuries.

The second and third ambulance took a further four injured patients to the Alex.

One person, who was immobilised with a neck collar and spinal board, suffered chest pains, while another suffered from rib and knee pain.

Highways England also attended and road closures were in place from Slideslow Island until the road was cleared at about 8.25pm on May 1.
