REDDITCH MP Karen Lumley recently presented the awards at Special Olympics Redditch’s annual awards celebration at Redditch Town Hall.

The MP, patron to Special Olympics Redditch, gave out participation awards to some 30 athletes, all aged between five and 50, in recognition of what they have achieved, either in training or generally in competitions, throughout the year.

Mrs Lumley also presented her own award to a football team who excelled during the last year.

“This is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the year," she said

"These are people - all of whom are heroes in their own right - who have battled through their disabilities to show what they can really do. I really enjoyed the evening.”

Ron Daykin, from the group, which is an accredited branch of Special Olympics GB, added: “The evening proved to be very rewarding for all athletes and volunteers as well as their families and carers who were also present.

“We are greatly indebted to Karen for giving us her all-year-round support.”
